Peter Felten is an established figure in the realm of higher education, holding multiple roles at Elon University. As a Professor of History, Executive Director of the Center for Engaged Learning, and Assistant Provost for Teaching and Learning, he has demonstrated a profound commitment to advancing educational practices.
Felten's scholarly contributions are extensive, with six published books focusing on undergraduate education. Notably, his collaboration with Leo Lambert resulted in the publication of "Relationship-Rich Education: How Human Connections Drive Success in College" (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2020), shedding light on the pivotal role of interpersonal relationships in educational success.
Continuing his dedication to enhancing student experiences, Felten co-authored a forthcoming book on relationship-rich education with Isis Artze-Vega, Leo Lambert, and Oscar Miranda Tapia. This book, published by Johns Hopkins in 2023, is accompanied by an open-access online version, ensuring accessibility for all readers.
Felten's leadership extends beyond his scholarly pursuits; he has served as President of both the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL) and the POD Network, the premier U.S. professional society for educational developers. Additionally, he sits on the advisory board of the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) and is recognized as a fellow of the Gardner Institute, an organization dedicated to advancing equity, justice, and upward social mobility through higher education.
During the academic year 2022-2023, Felten was honored with the Fulbright Canada Distinguished Chair in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning at Carleton University in Ottawa, a testament to his expertise and impact in the field.
